EXPECTATIONS:
1. BE PREPARED – This means bring your lap top, a black pen and all other required materials to class with you every day. The temperature in the room tends to run hot and cold so bring a jacket that you can wear or remove as the temperature varies.
2. SHOW RESPECT – This requires that you show respect to your teacher, your classmates, and most of all, for yourself by the way in which you act. As a citizen of this country, you have the right to a free, public education. Take advantage of it because all education after high school will not be free.
3. BE SAFE – This means that you and I will have a safety contract that includes many specific behaviors as well as the general rules that you will follow the instructions given by the teacher and act in a safe, responsible manner. FOOD, DRINK, CHEWING GUM, THE APPLICATION OF MAKE-UP OR THE REMOVAL AND INSERTION OF CONTACT LENSES IS STRICTHLY PROHIBITED IN A LAB CLASSROOM.
Consequences for rules infractions are the same as those in the student hand book:
1) warning, 2) conference with teacher, 3) after school detention, and 4) referral to office.
ATTENDANCE: Regular and punctual attendance is essential for successful completion of the requirements of this class. Many projects and labs will be planned that are very difficult to repeat. Students who arrive tardy to class put themselves at a disadvantage and also disrupt fellow students. Try to schedule appointments after school hours.
GRADING POLICY: Tests 50%
Labs & Projects 30%
Quizzes & Daily Work 20%
SUPPLIES: You are required to have a pen that writes in black ink, a pencil, and notebook paper in a spiral or loose leaf. Most other supplies will be provided. Some students prefer to have their own calculators, highlighters, map pencils, scotch tape, small scissors, and metric ruler. I will have class sets for you to use but you may bring your own if you choose. For labs, a lab notebook will also be kept and this will ALWAYS be left in the classroom. These can be either lined or graph paper composition notebooks.
Tutoring is available after school every Tuesday and Thursday in this room. It is mandatory for students who are failing.
