Vision and Hearing Screenings
All students in grades pre-k, kindergarten, first, third and fifth will have a vision and hearing screening at the beginning of each school year. If your child wears glasses, it is important for them to have a professional eye exam at least once per year. If you have any questions about school screenings or your child's vision and hearing, call the school nurse.
Acanthosis Nigricans
Students in first, third and fifth grades will be screened for Acanthosis Nigricans (AN), along with the vision and hearing screenings. AN is seen as a darkening of the skin on the neck and other areas and has been identified as a possible risk factor in the development of Type 2 Diabetes. Please check with your child's Physician for more information about AN and Childhood Diabetes.
Scoliosis
All fifth grade students will be screened for scoliosis. A parent notification letter will be sent home prior to the screening with information about scoliosis and the scheduled date of this screening.
