Sharing Information during Campus Staff Development:

After reading the memo on the integrated performance task goal for 2003-2004, discussion of how to share this with the staff on Wednesday and Thursday, August 13 and 14, was held.

The following will be shared:

The staff will be reminded that on October 30th in the morning, teams will work on the integrated performance tasks.  During the afternoon, sharing of tasks and looking at vertical alignment will occur within the vertical teams.

October 31st in the morning the staff will look at TAKS data and strategies issues across grade levels for working in subject disciplines or grade levels.  In the afternoon, “break-out” sessions in smaller group settings will occur.

Each team will submit a time line sharing what will be integrated in the new performance task and when it will occur.  When the task will be written and implemented will also be on the time line.  This will be emailed to the vertical team leaders, Rita Polen, and the administration no later than Friday, October 3, 2003.  If implementation occurs before this date, the administration should be notified.

The accountability for completion will be checked by an ongoing administrative input.  New teachers will be assigned mentors to help them understand the curriculum initiative and complete implementation of the performance tasks.

A rough draft of the integrated performance task will be due by the end of the day on October 30 and will be shared in the vertical teams.  Each subject to be integrated will be recorded on the form adopted by that particular vertical team at the middle school and high school level.  At the elementary level, the subjects should be identified at the top of the curriculum form.  If integration occurs with special teachers, then the elementary curriculum should also include those forms.

Some performance tasks will be shared at the SPC meeting during the February-March time frame and again in May.

Deb Pannabecker will share this information at the middle school/high school and the elementary SPC members will share as a group.  Secondary staff will be encouraged to share integrated curriculum developed this summer.  Information about the CQC email for curriculum concerns will be shared.

Rita Polen will explain the curriculum process to the new teachers at the orientation meeting.  Mentors will emphasize the importance of the performance tasks.

Rita asked for a sub-committee to develop break-out sessions for what teachers would find most helpful for the afternoon of October 31st.  This should be based on a survey to be given to teachers.  Members of this sub-committee are Kay Magness, Beth Howard, David Gibbs, and Allana Hemenway.

The next meeting of SPC will be September 16, at 4:00 in Room 21 to discuss the break-out sessions.  At that time, the committee will also address any questions about the curriculum.  Questions from the staff should be submitted by email to the CQC-Curriculum Question Center.  Ron will be responsible for setting this up.  Rita Polen or the appropriate person will be responsible for answering.

A sub-committee to discuss the logistics of submitting curriculum electronically will meet before the November meeting.   This committee will include Dick Wilson, Edie Gross, Dabs Hollimon, and Ron Bolin.

The graduate survey, staff development for next year, electronic curriculum submission, and the five year plan will be discussed at the SPC meeting on November 12, at 4:00 in Room 21 at the high school.   Reflections about the October staff development will be reviewed.

SPC will meet Tuesday, February 3, to review integrated performance tasks.  One task from elementary, middle school and high school will be presented.  Questions about the curriculum will be addressed.

May 4th will be the last SPC meeting.  It will be at 4:00 at Room 21 at the high school.   Tasks from the three levels will be presented.

Members of SPC reviewed the “Results of an Aligned Curriculum”.  Rita Polen explained the results and why certain information was not reported.  This document will be shared with the whole faculty.

Beth Howard will facilitator for the next meeting.  Karen Bessette will record using the computer and Edie Gross will do the written recording.
