Subcommittee
(Beth Howard, Allana Hemenway, Kay Magness, and Rita Polen) reports results of
the staff development survey to determine interests for sessions in October
2003: Rita reported that the majority
responded as interested in reluctant learners and/or struggling learners. Recommendation from the subcommittee: one session focusing on reluctant/struggling
learners, either two 1 ˝ -hour sessions or one 3-hour session. Rita reports she contacted Region 20, and Ed Vara and Sheila Collasco will
present on this topic. For the
elementary, especially to target classroom teachers who have a 6-hour g/t
requirement, a 3-hour session focusing on nature and needs will be
offered. NOTE: SPC discussed options and agree: 1) one three-hour session focusing on
struggling/reluctant learners; and 2) one three-hour session on g/t training
focusing on nature and needs.
II.
October 30, 2003 – In the AM, teams who are integrating performance
tasks will meet together to develop/refine tasks. In the PM, vertical teams will meet with a
goal of turning in a draft of the integrated performance task.
III.
October 31, 2003 – In the AM, presentation related to TAKS/TEKS will
be the focus. Kay Magness proposed the
secondary teachers focus on writing TEKS which is the campuses’ CPO. Specifically, teachers will look at “short
answers” and strategies to use that response in all content areas. Elementary teachers could meet to focus on
that campus CPO, inquiry. Specifically, teachers could focus on additional
strategies to improve student skills in inquiry. NOTE:
SPC agrees. Hours for the two
days: 8-11 will be the morning session,
lunch 11-12:30, afternoon session from 12:30-3:30. All the district will meet at the elementary school.
IV.
SPC discussed the
“curriculum question center” (cqc) hotline and
questions regarding the development of integrated performance tasks. If a team/teacher already has two tasks, they
can either add a new integrated task OR integrate one of the existing
tasks. Therefore, each team/teacher will
have at least two tasks that are completed by all students in the class,
one of which must be integrated. NOTE:
Teams/teachers are encouraged to have more than two tasks.
