Meeting Summary Minutes
August 13, 2001
The Strategic Planning Committee reviewed the Results
of an Aligned Curriculum and made corrections that included adding the
percentage of the senior class that graduated under the Recommended High School
Program and adding completion rates to the dropout page.
The committee examined the ITBS/TAP scores and noted
that we needed to help students improve their attitude about taking the
norm-referenced tests. SPC identified several actions to be taken this year to
address this issue.
- At a
faculty meeting, teachers and administrators will review the importance of
the testing both for the students and the district.
- During
advisory prior to testing, Mr. McLaughlin will review the importance of
testing with the students noting that the information is recorded on each
student’s permanent record. Thus, the information goes with the student.
The data is also used as one criterion for being part of several programs
including ZENITH, the gifted and talented program.
- Send
home a letter to parents explaining when the testing will occur and why it
is important. The letter will be mailed with the six weeks report card
prior to the test administration.
A concerted effort will be made to help students do
their best on the norm-referenced testing.
Three subcommittees were formed to
- Revise
the definitions for the Results of an Aligned Curriculum and recommend any
additions or deletions to the data being gathered. The members of the
Action subcommittee, Beth Howard, Kay Magness,
Bruce Cannon, Maggie Napper and Rita Polen, will report their
recommendations to the SPC at the November 6th meeting.
- Update
the “Life Tracks” survey and send the survey to graduates. The members of
the subcommittee are Bruce Cannon, Dick Wilson, Roger Ruder and Rita
Polen, and they will report to the SPC at the November 6th
meeting.
- Develop
the next steps in the curriculum project and prepare another 5-year plan
for curriculum. The members of the subcommittee are David Gibbs, Edie
Gross, Kay Magness, Dick Wilson and Rita Polen,
and they will report to the SPC on February 11th.
The SPC set three meetings for the 2001-2002 school year. The meetings will be held at 3:45 pm in room 21 at the high school on
Tuesday, November 6th, Monday, February 11th, and Monday,
May 13th.
